I have tried, oh how I've tried
to be like a firefly;
To share a little light
in the darkness of the night

Tweedles -- that's me said...

Twinkle twinkle little firefly,
up in the sky so bright.
You flitter here and flitter there,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
fly with you tonight!

Sweet story time...
Starry night and fire flies.

FIREFLY BALL

I come out here and sit,
When day turns into night,
And watch these wonderful fireflies
...Their twinkling little lights

To me they're just like magic,
From a children's fairy tale,
Like little sparkling diamonds,
Shining through a gossamer veil.

I've often sat and wondered,
What makes them shine that way,
I guess it's another pretty gift,
Our Creator sends our way.

Kit and I sat in the darkness at the top of the ridge, watching the headlights of cars streaming along the road, some of which would be those coming to the memorial service for our beloved and departed Edmund, who had devoted the major part of his life to us. They would soon all be parked in the large lot next to the house.

We waited and waited for the guests to show up, but they never did.
Hours later, near midnight, we realized that there had been a misprint in the date and time of the memorial.

The next morning we saw on the news that our area was hit with an unusual swarm of fireflies that were for some reason gathering nearby, not moving on, just hovering. The weatherman opined that there simply might have been something unknowable that was drawing them there.

Oh, how beautiful fireflies are to watch on a warm summer night. Twinkling and glowing from the inside like the love flowing from our hearts.

Don't let summer pass without watching fireflies, but let them be free and not imprisoned inside a glass jar awaiting a quick death.

After all, are we not fireflies, too?

Do we not glow for only an instant and end up as ashes in the cold ground?

here's the link to what I have wrote - http://www.justwritingwords.com/2009/07/firefly-evening.html -- it's too long to post in the comments but here's the first paragraph:

They were clustered together in one area. Their glowing bodies danced in the circular sky. Silence dusted the atmosphere. Emma and seven-year-old Little Em sat on the dried ground of an abandon beach, eagerly watching the fireflies moving about. It was just the two of them - mother and daughter - sharing the same view, the same sky. It was a perfect evening - no rain, no wild winds and no crowds. Nothing to break this moment apart.
